WRITING-SELF-PUBLISHING YOUR OWN BOOK by Paul Ed-M
To up-coming writers or publishers or those who aspire to get into the writing-self-publishing business, it would be like finally landing on the mountain top of their desired-destiny when the day comes that a book to their name is published. Yet, that day is not far fetched if only the easy steps to self-publishing laid out below, are carefully studied and put to work. Here’s now a step by step plan to self-publishing –
(1) You can always find free templates for writing-self-publishing books on the internet. This takes all the hassle out of your way. If you need something better than the free versions, you are getting ready to pay for it, so that you can really have something that suits your purpose. The availability of such writing templates on the internet today, unlike it was just a few years ago, really puts the main key to easy writing-self-publishing at just a click away, and in the hands of any novice.
(2) Determine the focus or central theme of the book.
(3) Device sub-titles from the central theme; you are getting your table of contents ready.
(4) Developing content and pagination: Taking your sub-titles as your guide, you need to source materials along with your original ideas, being careful to seek copyright permission where need be, and to make appropriate references or citations where applicable. You would need to use a plagiarism checker to help avoid copyright issues. Free versions of this checker are available on the internet for free download. Every writer and/or any one who wants to get involved in such a writing-self-publishing tasks would want to keep a copy of the Checker to themselves for regular use.
(5) Cover design and ISBN: Certainly, make the cover-design colourful and as inviting as you possibly can. Take a good look at how others have presented or projected their central concept or book title in their book-cover design, and project your concept into your own cover design. It might b worth getting up to 3-4 designs and then settling for the best. Contact your national Library and apply for an ISBN number, usually, for a small fee. As a writer and self-publisher, you would always have need for this international books identifier number.
(6) Proof reading and editing: After you have done your best, and have applied all the required spell-check to deal with spelling and grammatical errors, you will still need to let others take a look at your manuscript and be able to help you see and correct what you may not have noticed. This is a discipline the writing-self-publishing experience will teach you quickly.
Remember, once final copies are printed and circulated, they are simply gone into hands from where retrieval may not be possible.
(7) Printing and publishing: Once you are satisfied with your progress at this stage, and the work is laid out on the template, you are ready to have your first computer-print-out. Your e-book is ready. Hard copies can be printed out from your computer.
(8) Collation, Binding & packaging: For the hard copies, you will need to determine what form of binding is necessary. That depends a lot on the number of pages. If you do not have office machine that can do what is needed, you may at this stage approach a commercial printer to put this finishing touch to your handiwork. You should be glad you made it all happen to this very end. Welcome to the growing market of writers and self-publishing authors!
